Nuggets of the Future (?)

Four was the third album by Tacoma, Washington’s Seaweed, released in 1993 on Sub Pop Records.
I’ve always felt that Seaweed were a bit out of place on Sub Pop. As a melodic punk band operating in the grunge heyday of the early 90s, they didn’t really fit with Sub Pop’s roster at the time. They might have been better off on one of the California labels that focused on pop-punk at the time—Lookout, or even Epitaph. Then again, there were other elements of their sound that might have seemed just as out of place on those labels. Ultimately, that’s a pretty accurate summation of Seaweed’s career—too pop-punk for the grunge kids, too alt-rock for the pop-punk kids. In certain corners of the scene, though, there’s still a lot of love for them, and in their best moments, the reason is obvious.
