Nuggets of the Future (?)

Here’s the video for “Naked,” the failed second single from A Boy Named Goo. It was released in the spring of 1995, right before I got out for summer vacation after what turned out to be my last year in college. If I hadn’t seen the Goo Goo Dolls perform this song live on MTV’s “120 Minutes,” I doubt I’d have purchased the cassette copy of this album that I own to this day. That live performance (the video of which does not appear to exist online, or I’d be posting it instead) blew me away, probably not even because the band played the song in particularly memorable way, but just because it was such a great fucking song that I couldn’t possibly ignore it. In fact, the chorus got stuck in my head after seeing it once, and I had to have the album. I don’t know why this song wasn’t their big breakthrough hit and “Name” was, but for me, this has always been the big single from A Boy Named Goo.
