Mission statement.
I’ve been thinking of starting this auxiliary tumblr for a few weeks, ever since I wrote this blogpost and realized that this would be a fun concept to explore on an ongoing basis. So now I’ve started this blog, in order to do exactly that.
My plan is to post at least once a day (though realistically, it may only happen once or twice a week), and in each post, I will spotlight a particular song that I think is both amazing and forgotten. My emphasis, genre-wise, will be on indie, alt-rock, post-grunge, and other styles of music that were popular in the early to mid 90s, when Nirvana and their contemporaries were going strong and pretty much any underground rock band with a bit of a buzz could get an album released. A lot of the songs released on those albums were great, and a lot of them are forgotten now. I want to try and give them their moment in the sun.
I’m going to be as loose as possible with time restrictions. I have no problem with posting things that came out anytime from the late 80s to the early 00s if I think they fit with what I’m doing. I’m going to avoid bands who were successful beyond the level of having a single random hit at some point, and I’ll also try to avoid bands with long-running cult followings. That said, if I end up posting something that does fall into those categories, I won’t worry about it too much. My goal here is not to be restrictive, but to post and write about great music that I don’t think gets enough recognition.
There’ll be more posts in the very near future, so watch this space.
